Locke's works, especially his Second Treaties, are often referred to and mentioned in other historical volumes, but reading the material firsthand is like taking a deep breath of air straight from an oxygen bottle. Every patriot who desires to be properly prepared to resist the looming tyranny in our own country needs to read this volume.
Took a long time to get through these works. If I could say anything bad, it is that he is very detailed and repeats ideas. But, I think I am an Empiricis like he is. So, I agree with his conclusions and am persuaded by his arguments. I have more reason to believe what I have long thought.The work on education is great, but it reflects the emphasis of men (gentlemen) getting the through education that was common at the time.I would recommend this to anyone wanting to have a historical perspective on modern empirical philosophy.
Very well written, of course. Locke was a man with a lot of good thought out ideas and reasoning. He expresses them in every way that they can possibly be discussed. Probably a bit of a bore at cocktail or dinner parties.
This Kinder book has expanded my knowledge of what others have summarized, primarily in philosophy, to Locke's writing about forms of government that the founding fathers must have read when the constitution was written.
Although the writing style is a bit dated, the ideas presented by Locke have stood the test of time. Consider skipping the constitution of the Carolinas.
Read Locke and you'll know why he was "the man" of the 17th century. I first read Locke as an undergrad and later in grad school. He was a true genius and his writings influenced not only other philosophers but the writers of the American Constitution.
