The only real negative i have for this book is that most of the hikes are clustered in the upper-half of the lower peninsula and around the Detroit area. I currently reside in SW MI and there are not very many hikes listed in this area. Understandably, geography and availability probably play a part in the selection. The downside in that some driving will be required to get to the better hiking areas.
great book for hikers or just anyone who wants to explore trails in michiganthe book has very nice photos and the trail maps are nice and they are topographic which is definitely nice
I love this book. The layout and label of each hike is simple and easy to follow, yet every hike is very detailed. I liked the photos (I'm a visual person). I look forward to many adventures contained within. I love living in Michigan!
Went blind into michigan having never been there to hike and relied heavily on this book. I think it undersold the great hikes (manistee river trail) and oversold some others. It also gave difficult directions to the trails. Thank god for gps!
What a great book! Who knew Michigan had so many places to hike!! I have lived here my whole life (almost 40 years) and I didnt know 3/4 of the hikes in this book! Great option for someone who wants to get out and enjoy what Michigan has to offer.
Good read
As a new resident to the lower peninsula of Michigan, I set out for a book to lead me to some of the best hikes near my home. (Note that this book only details hikes on the lower peninsula.) This book delivers! I've been on about 10 of the 60 hikes in the past few months, and without exception I've found the guide to be well detailed, accurate, and generally helpful. For more information, the author also runs a website called "Michigan Trail Maps" that includes even more hiking options. Some of the hikes are a bit short for my taste (I mostly run them so a 1-2 mile hike is over pretty quickly), but one can often combine some of the hikes into longer excursions. This book is highly recommended!
Great guide with detailed maps and descriptions. Would absolutely recommend. My only suggestion would be to include the town name with the trail name in the chart in the front.
