We received this book yesterday and our three year old daughter is already in love with it. Yes, it’s corny, but corny in a very smart and endearing way that makes it fun for parents to read. Toddlers will appreciate the silly story and older kids will learn from the message, which is largely about accepting differences in others. Great fun for little kids, slightly older ones, and for parents. Recommend!
My four and six-year-old children love this book. (My eight and ten-year-olds think it's pretty fun too and always ask if they can be the ones to read it.) A horse and a dog think the other should be just like them in this funny story and my kids giggle at the hilarious lines (oh yeah, I also decided it was your birthday) and relatable facial expressions of the animals. A great read aloud--especially for kids learning to read! (They can be one character and you can be another.)
Really funny, a great children's book!
Definitely a book.
From the moment this book arrived, our kids have been clamoring for repeat readings. Luckily the story is so funny and also has a good message about accepting differences so we love to read this one again and again. It’s a great friendship story and the illustrations are hilarious too. The hay in the bottle cracks my oldest up every time. Don’t miss this picture book!

According to Chinese zoadiac I’m a horse (78) and son (18) is a dog so had to get this book as a stable of our early reading habits when he gets older. It is pretty standard kids fare, not as easy to exaggerate for kids enjoyment as the pigeon books but stands well on its own and compares well to the many others where animals get confused with ducks, frogs, etc.
This book had me laughing more than any other kids book we have (and we have a ton). My 4 year old loves it and I might like it even more.
