About the Author
Brian May, founder, member, songwriter and guitarist with the rock band Queen, and co-creator of the internationally successful rock theatrical, We Will Rock You, is also a Doctor of Astrophysics, a leading campaigner for animal rights, and a lifelong 3-D photography enthusiast. Most recently, he has become a successful publisher, dedicated to sharing his vast collection of Victorian stereo photographs with the world through the books released by the London Stereoscopic Company (a fond recreation of the highly successful company of the same name founded in 1854). Brian currently tours with Queen for much of the year with Adam Lambert as lead vocalist, as well as composing, recording and performing in collaboration with West End star Kerry Ellis, an original luminary of the cast of We Will Rock You. His many other recent projects include working on 3-D 360-degree virtual reality movies, and the much-anticipated biopic of Freddie Mercury, which commences filming in September this year. Brian lives in London with his wife, his partner for over thirty years, actress Anita Dobson.

If you've seen the movie "Bohemian Rhapsody" then you have an inkling of what a band of geniuses Queen was. I loved their music but never saw them in concert. I never knew how extraordinary their individual lives were, eclipsed as they were by larger-than-life Freddie Mercury. This book is a stereoscopic history of the band behind-the-scenes, filled with Brian May's well-written anecdotes and stories which are fascinating. There is no other piece of work which gives such a thorough and entertaining view of the history of this period in popular music. Hats off to Dr. Brian May for this accomplishment, who as an astrophysicist was personally invited to Stephen Hawking's private funeral.
The 3D images are really cool. Couldn’t help but flip through the entire book first just to look at the stereoscopic images lol 😂 The book was written by Brian May and he took most of the photos too. A nice personal/intimate look at Queen from the 70s and on.
I LOVE this book! Not just because of the great pictures. I love how it was written! It's as if Brian May were just talking to all of us. It's not written like a book. It is written like he talks. It literally feels like he's just hanging out and talking about the times, the photos, his life and the lives of those in Queen. I can "hear" him talking when I read it because I have watched hours and hours of interviews. He has one of the most calming voices I have ever heard. I will hold this book dear to me for the rest of my life. If you love Queen and you want to see some behind the scenes pictures and hear great stories, this is the book for you!
There are 2 ways to review this book: one on content and the second on the 3-D aspect. The content was interesting, but the main selling point was the 3-D for me so that's how I'm rating it. I remember as a child my grandparents had a Viewmaster that I marveled at whenever we visited. If this book 3-D was even half as good as that I would have been satisfied. Unfortunately, no matter how I angled, lighted, or shifted the book I could never get the 3-D aspect to work. The graininess of the photos an paper didn't help any.
I loved it ALL! If it’s Queen and Freddie, it’s the best singing in history and always will be!!!!
I’m probably the only person who read this book and had trouble with the stereoscopic photo viewing. Nevertheless, the book was really enjoyable and satisfying to read and the photos were worth having. I learned a lot about the band, their associates, the history and more. I sat down to start the book today and found myself driven to keep reading until I reached the end. Not my plan for the day; but worth it.
What a wonderful book! Thank you Brian May for putting this together for us.You continue to amaze me with your abilities not limited to playing virtuoso guitar. It's a walk down Queen memory lane. Thanks for sharing a part of the band's life.The only disappointment is the OWL stereoscopic viewer supplied with the book, it's not the one that one would expect to receive with a high end publication - which this book is. They have only included the lite OWL viewer which is rather difficult to use.
