I'm finding it hard to put into words just what this story meant to me. It was so wonderful to see two men in their late seventies find love with each other. I'm 58 years old and while I love romance stories, it sometimes become hard to relate to all of the twenty or thirty-somethings. Even the characters in "mature" relationships are usually only in their forties. This book gives me hope that it's not too late to find true love. Hope that maybe there is someone out there who will accept me and love me as I am and not be concerned with how my body looks, or that I have more grey in my hair every day, or that I can be pretty set in my ways, etc. This was such a departure from the Devon McCormack books that I've read in the past, and I'm so glad he took the chance and wrote this beautiful story.
Devon McCormack has been courageous enough to address something that's taboo for many people in elderly care and in society at large: love (yes, also physical) in old age.Devon describes the developing and blossoming relationship between two seventy-something men in a retirement community, their memories, their meeting as teenagers, the different paths they chose for their lives with such sensitivity, intelligence and humour that I read the book in one sitting. I just couldn't put it away. I won't add any spoilers here; you can read the blurb, but believe me: there are not many authors who dare to address the reality of elderly people loving each other and engaging in sex. Devon McCormack wins gold with this, as far as I'm concerned.
I related to Wes, as I have a very supportive daughter, whom I adore as well as my grandson. But I also related to Art in so many ways. This love story should be read by all ages, to understand what we’ve gone through to get to where our community is today, even as we have farther to go. But it’s also about our love of friends and love for each other. Please, read this story, it will fill you with love! And at 62, it has giving me hope that there is more, and maybe still another Forever and Ever! Thanks Devon
Let me start by saying I had way too much to relate to with this story. I'm 55 and while I'm not looking for retirement anytime soon, I can see too much of myself in this story. I'm old enough to have seen the same things that Wes and Art have and to have experienced many of the same things. How Devon, as young as he is, can bring this realism to his story and his characters speaks to his ability and his skill. You will lose yourself in these two as they discover their feelings for one another and find their path to Forever and Ever. I shed tears knowing the truth of his writing and the hope that I will have the kind of life that he portrays. Devon, you are an amazing writer and this is one of your best to date. Read it. You will love it.
This story was a hard one to get through. I understand how difficult it is to write a book, how time consuming and how the writer puts so much of themselves into it. So, that said, this story was slow and repetitive and some of the dialogue was off. It was a good idea and the characters created were interesting and diverse. I think what it needed was maybe more reference to the fifties and sixties to make the characters more dimensional and give them some hurdles to overcome. Maybe angst within the family. I just had a hard time with the pace.
Forever and Ever, is an amazing and powerful love story for many reasons. It is a rare experience to read a book about love and relationships that deal with an aging same sex couple. Devon McCormack has written a book that gives the reader a story about M/M love that is not just based on youth and the buff male form that has those larger than life body parts. Rather, this author has touched on a true love that is about the aging process, and how for some of us, the sweet and tender true love that we humans seek at the instinctual level, can happen much later in our life's journey.Forever and ever is a powerful and beautiful love story.
This was such a beautiful love story without all the angst, just two men falling in love in their later years. Art and Wes’s love was so heartwarming. I love how after so many years apart they found each other at the same retirement home. I know this is a story that will stay with me for a long time. Another stellar book from Devon McCormack.
A true love story. It's so beautiful you cry with them and laugh with them and feel there love in every cell of your body. You did real good here Devon. Art and Wes and there love will follow me forever or until the day that we can say " Okey now every person have the same value" I really hope I will see that day before my time is up here.
